It’s no secret that we are big fans of transferable points over here at The Military Travelers! One of the most frequently asked questions we receive in our Facebook group and on Instagram is HOW to actually transfer these points.
So, we decided we’d just show you! Take a look below at a step-by-step guide on how to transfer your American Express Membership Rewards.
First off, let’s go over a few key basics:
- Fees: There are no fees for transferring Capital One miles to partners.
- Pooling: You can pool Capital One miles if you have multiple cards.
- Transfer Ratios: This refers to the rate at which Capital One miles are converted to miles or points in a partner loyalty program. For example, if you see a 1:1 ratio, this means that for every Membership Reward point you transfer, you’ll receive one point or mile in the partner’s loyalty program. Check out the most current transfer ratios using our Transfer Partner Cheat Sheet! Different partners may offer varying transfer rates. It’s important to understand these ratios before transferring.
- Transfer Speed: Transfer speed is depended on each transfer program. You should be able to view the estimated transfer time before you make the transfer. TMT Tip: Call the airline and see if they can hold your reservation while your points transfer. This is not available with every airline but worth asking!
- Transfer Bonus: Make sure to look for any current transfer bonuses that could mazimize your point value even more. You’ll see this denoted
Lastly, transfers are FINAL! Once you have transferred your points to your partner airline or hotel, you can not move them back. Because of this, we highly recommend not transferring your points unless you have a very specific redemption in mind and have confirmed availability.
