We talk a lot about maximizing your transferrable points by transferring them out to their various transfer partners in our Facebook group and on Instagram. We’re typically met with a few comments that look a lot like “but HOW do I actually do this?”
So, we decided we’d just show you! Take a look below at a step-by-step guide on how to actually transfer your points. This example is for Chase Ultimate Rewards Points.
First off, let’s go over a few key basics:
- Pooling: You can pool points from multiple Chase cards into one account (including business and personal).
- Household Pooling: If you and a spouse/domestic partner have linked Chase accounts, you can combine points within the same household. To do this, simply call the number on the back of your card.
- Transfer Ratios: This refers to the rate at which American Express Membership Rewards are converted to miles or points in a partner loyalty program. For example, if you see a 1:1 ratio, this means that for every Membership Reward point you transfer, you’ll receive one point or mile in the partner’s loyalty program. Check out the most current transfer ratios using our Transfer Partner Cheat Sheet! Different partners may offer varying transfer rates. It’s important to understand these ratios before transferring.
- Transfer Speed: Transfer speed is depended on each transfer program. You should be able to view the estimated transfer time before you make the transfer. TMT Tip: Call the airline and see if they can hold your reservation while your points transfer. This is not available with every airline but worth asking!
- No Fees: There are no fees for transferring points to Chase’s airline or hotel partners.
Lastly, transfers are FINAL! Once you have transferred your points to your partner airline or hotel, you can not move them back. Because of this, we highly recommend not transferring your points unless you have a very specific redemption in mind and have confirmed availability.
